Maggie Wright was an active musician in the New Bern community for over 35 years. She is a recently retired music teacher from Craven County Schools. She was involved with the music ministry at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, working with children and youth choirs, as well as singing in the Daybreak Choir and ringing handbells with the Sanctuary Bells. She was also involved with the Messiah Chorus and the different theatre organizations.

Maggie has also taught private piano for over 35 years.  Her students are taught to read and understand music as they learn to play the piano. Knowledge and understanding of scales, chords, transposition, and improvisation/composition is taught at the level of the student’s capabilities.

She has recently moved to Hillsborough to be closer to family, and she looks forward to teaching piano to interested children, teens, and adults. She is joining the faculty at Triangle Music School, and will be available on Mondays.

Maggie holds degrees in music from James Madison University (Bachelor in Music Ed.) and East Carolina University (Masters of Music). She is also a National Board Certified Teacher in Early/Middle Music, which indicates a specialization in ages 3-12.

Her students have participated in the National Guild of Piano Teachers auditions, scoring in the excellent/superior range. Some students have advanced to earn the High School Diploma, which is an intensive musical undertaking for both the student and teacher, and can be listed on resumes and college applications. Some students have successfully auditioned for college music programs and have received music scholarships at the university level.
